The story begins with a fox that is caught in a narrow gorge surrounded by blood sucking flies. When the hedgehog notices the fox is too tired to swat the beasts away, he offers his services to the fox to help remove the pests, but to his surprise the fox declines. For the flies currently swarming the fox have already had their fill and are only doing minimal damage. If they are swatted away a new swarm of blood thirsty flies will take their place draining the fox completely.
